New Year Writing Goals 2023

I’ve done a version of this post idea in video form for the past two years, and I think it’s finally time to put it down in writing so I can refer back to it throughout the year. So, here are my writing goals for 2023 and a reflection on what I achieved last year in 2022!

The Soundtrack to My Book

This is an idea I’ve been considering for a while, but I’ve seen that Rainbow Rowell has done annotated playlists for Eleanor & Park and Wayward Son, so I’ve been convinced to do one for myself.

I’m not usually someone who listens to music while writing – I’m so easily distracted that I need full silence – but I make these book playlists as a soundtrack to the finished story, like a soundtrack to a film. Most songs are picked because they sound a way that fits a scene in my head. Some are picked because they have specific lyrics that fit perfectly to the characters. In this post, I’m going to try and explain some of my choices. It’s a shortened version of the playlist, but still a long post.

Let’s begin!

What I Learned From Writing Fanfiction

I feel like you should know that this blog has come into existence because I watched the film ‘After’ (you know, the movie based on a hugely popular Harry Styles fanfic-turned-book) and now I can’t stop thinking about the days when I wrote One Direction fanfiction on Quotev and Wattpad.

And I can’t stop thinking about how fanfiction is still treated like an inferior form of writing, so here’s a full blog post to argue otherwise.

How to Help Authors

From personal experience, I’ve discovered that gaining recognition and creating an audience as a new author – especially as a self-published one – is borderline impossible.

So, in order to help out new authors, I’ve created a short guide on some important things you can do that they’ll definitely appreciate.

Let’s begin!

Week Three #MyWIPMay2019

After months of having no motivation to put words on a page, I’m back!

One Camp NaNo has just ended, and another one is about to begin, and I won’t participate in either this year, so I’m taking the blog posts of this month to talk about my current WIP. I found a daily Instagram challenge by @vesselofink, but as I don’t have a dedicated book Instagram account and don’t want to do short blog posts every day, I’m going to try a weekly post and answer a bunch of the questions at once. New Year Writing Goals 2019

Beautiful People’ is a project created by a book blog that I love (Paper Fury), aimed at writers. Every month, they post a list of ten questions for people to answer, designed to help you get to know their characters – their quirks, their flaws, their personality, and who they are. Occasionally, there are groups of questions aimed at the writers and their writing progress, rather than just what they’re writing about.

For this blog, I’m going to be answering a group of questions. I believe that this group is the January 2016 group (I updated the years in the questions so it fits in with the current time), and I’d love to see everyone else’s responses to these questions. I’ll put the complete list of questions at the very end of the blog.

Let’s begin!

NaNo 2018 Updates

Beautiful People’ is a project created by a book blog that I love (Paper Fury), aimed at writers. They used to post a list of ten questions for people to answer every month, designed to help you get to know their characters – their quirks, their flaws, their personality, and who they are. Occasionally, there are groups of questions aimed at the writers and their writing progress, rather than just what they’re writing about. In this case, it’s inspired by NaNoWriMo!

For this blog, I’m going to be answering a group of questions. I believe that this is the November 2016 group and I’d love to see everyone else’s responses to these questions. I’ll put the complete list of questions at the very end of the blog.
