The irony of being a book blogger and a book lover is that I spent a lot of time talking about reading and hoarding books, and spent very little time actually reading. My TBR has overflowed from one shelf onto another and will soon dominate an entire bookcase. I do feel guilty, but reading and writing and most things in life are just for fun, so I shouldn’t, right?
Anyway, I have a lot of books I want to read and a lot of books people are shocked I haven’t read, so I’m going to motivate myself to read them by doing this tag and telling you what they are.
This tag was created by Book Nest! I was not tagged! The full list of questions will be at the end of this post!
A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read
‘The Night Circus’! One of my friends is obsessed with it and constantly recommends it to me, and I downloaded the eBook but I just haven’t gotten round to starting it. I originally wanted to read it after I finished ‘Caraval’, but I didn’t want to read too many ‘circus’ themed books in a row as my previous read was also very circus-y.
A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up
The ‘Let It Snow’ book that John Green and two other authors wrote together. I actually own a copy of the book and read the first page or two at one point, then put it down and never finished it. The ‘Shiver’ series by Maggie Stiefvater: I’m obsessed with so many of her books and I bought the boxset and just haven’t got round to reading it.
A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten round to finishing yet
This isn’t a book in a series that I’ve started and not finished, but I started reading ‘Children of Blood and Bone’, put it down around halfway through, then just haven’t picked it up again. I’ve been trying to read that book for months now.
A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’. I’ve read the first and the third, but not the second, but I’ve seen all of the films. ‘Twilight’ and ‘Shiver’ and a lot of other supernatural novels, besides ‘The Vampire Diaries’. The ‘Harry Potter’ series and ‘Lord of the Rings (I’ve read and seen ‘The Hobbit’) and the books that inspired ‘Game of Thrones’.
A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet
I could use this answer for most of the questions, but the entire ‘Harry Potter’ series. I’ve watched the films all in two days and I’m hugely invested in the fandom – especially the Marauders – but I’ve just never read the books. I desperately want to though! Seeing all the textposts on Tumblr made me aware of how many important things the movies missed out.
A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet
This could be any recent YA novel – usually fantasy or contemporary – with a beautiful cover. I rarely stay up to date on upcoming releases unless it’s an author I already love, so there’s so many books that I never look into.
Is there a popular book that it seems everyone but you had read? What’s a book that someone is always telling you to read?
